Wellness and Recovery: The Trade Fair Edition

If you’ve ever worked at a trade fair, you know the feeling: long days, thousands of steps and hours of standing at the booth. You might be running on coffee, sheer willpower, and feet that might be ready to resign. Trade fairs can be physically and mentally demanding.

The Wulff Entre team travels a lot and so do our clients, and the seasonality of events also means that within just a couple of months, your calendar can be completely packed with travel.  Wellness and recovery is something to plan for before, during, and after a work trip. Here’s a few tried and true tips that we swear by.

Before: prepare your body like it’s an event

Trade fairs are a bit like endurance events. You wouldn’t show up to a marathon without training, either.

Move consistently. Add more movement to your daily routine. Walk more, stand up regularly, or take short active breaks during your workday.

Pack smart. Comfortable shoes are essential. If you have to wear formal ones at the stand, bring sneakers for travel and downtime. Pro tip: never travel without a massage ball (even just a tennis ball will do the trick). Rolling the soles of your feet or calves for a few minutes helps loosen tight muscles, improve circulation, and ease that heavy-legged feeling after long days on your feet.

Plan your recovery time. Look at your schedule and make sure you have some downtime planned after the event.

During the fair: small moves, big difference

Once the fair begins, the focus naturally shifts to meetings, customers, and presentations. Small habits throughout the day can make a big difference in how you feel by the end.

Keep moving. You’ll definitely get your steps in, but you’ll also stand still a lot. Shift your weight, roll your shoulders, do mini stretches, or take a short loop around the hall when there’s a quiet moment.

Hydrate and refuel. Bring a water bottle and keep healthy snacks in your booth. It’s amazing how easy it is to forget to eat until 4 p.m when you're working at an event!

Protect your senses. Trade fairs can be loud and overstimulating. Having a pair of noise-reducing ear pods can make a huge difference during setup, breaks, or travel.

After the fair: recover & recharge

Shift your focus from performance to recovery. Taking care of yourself now ensures you bounce back faster and are ready for whatever is next.

Book a massage or physio session. This  helps release all that built-up tension from standing, lifting, and traveling.

Get a good night’s rest. Prioritize proper sleep and hydration - they’re the simplest, cheapest and most effective recovery tools you have.

Trade fairs are built on human energy.  When we take care of our own wellbeing, we don’t just feel better - we work and perform better, too. Recovery is a part of your professional performance. If you have a favourite recovery tip, please do share in the comments!  To everyone still deep in trade fair season: take care of yourselves, pace your energy, and safe travels for the rest of the 2025 trade fair year.
